MapWorks Tulsa, Inc. is excited to begin our next phase of implementing an innovative MapWorks Tulsa outreach program for Tulsa youth and adults on the benefits of mapping while also appreciating the geography, diversity, culture and history of Tulsa. Coinciding with our mission of fostering unity, inclusion and identity, The Tulsa Map will be used as a tool to strengthen connections between Tulsa residents and the places they share, as well as understanding the spaces between them.
Research shows that the educational benefits of maps include development of critical thinking skills, understanding of technology, and collaboration – all of which leads to better academic outcomes. Maps also teach skills such as geography and spatial awareness while providing cultural and historical context. Maps are an efficient and effective tool in the learning process.
The support we receive empowers MapWorks Tulsa to not only create The Tulsa Map® and promote the unique vibe and opportunities of our city, but also to implement outreach programs for both adults and youth on the benefits of mapping while appreciating the geography, diversity, culture and history of Tulsa.
