One of the city’s most historic areas, Tulsa’s downtown Deco District is known for its numerous art deco architecture, including the Philtower Building with its tiled roof and the Philcade Building, whose ornate lobby has a small art deco museum. Just as Tulsa was growing in the 1920s due to the oil boom, the Art Deco movement took off, and residents began building skyscrapers, churches, and industrial buildings in the popular style. The Deco District is a collection of local businesses, restaurants, shops, entertainment venues, and hotels.
